Boat Ride

We decided to take a detour for an afternoon and let the Windles explore Port Arthur, while we took a 3 hour boat ride to see the cliffs and scenery from the other vantage point, the Southern Ocean!  We booked with Tasman Island Cruises, and they were wonderful.  Remember to look for the bright yellow boats!

They had lots of good information, as well as a great sense of humor.  The Southern Ocean was quite rough, and it was pretty chilly, at about 45ºF in Hobart that day, with us much further south, it was nearer to 38ºF.  They provide cold weather gear, as well as a natural remedy for motion sickness.

The Southern Ocean is below the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as the Tasman Sea.

I'm not going to comment a lot here, but the photos are awesome!

So, what does that rock formation resemble?  They call it the Saint Bernard...

Tough life...

This is how they got supplies onto the island for the lighthouse!  There's a cable between the actual island and an outcropping of rock.
They would hook onto the cable and the folks on the island would pull the cargo to the edge.
Then, with ponies, pull the load up rails on the side of the island!

The Tasman Island Lighthouse!

Sea lions, pretty amazing how they can climb!

On the way back to port, now...

We highly recommend this tour, though the water was VERY rough today, no one got sick, amazingly!

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking!  Sheer cliffs, escarpments, ocean views are definitely worth the time!

The crew was well seasoned, and capable of handling the waters and clearly loved what they do!
